Like, seriously. She’s not dumb. She was just in total shock. She completely blanked. She’s human. That’s good that she’s human. She shouldn’t have been in the contest if she wasn’t. Of course, not all humans are intelligent and we need to live with that fact. I think the thing that makes this particular moron so popular is that, even in a person’s stupidest moment, this took the cake.
However, Lauren Caitlin Upton appeared on Today none the less and spoke about her experience and had a chance to redeem herself. She said it all came at her at once (after Ann Curry suggested that to her) and she was overwhelmed. Watching it now is like seeing heself, but thinking that’s not really her in her own body. Yeah.
Needless to say, Upton said she plans to take graphic design (hopefully not to become a mapmaker). She wants to work on special effects for movies one day. In the meantime, when speaking about the map incident she says:
“Personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don’t know anyone else who doesn’t. And if the statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on geography in our education so people will learn how to read maps better.”
See she’s not dumb. She just likes making herself look that way.
