Every child of the 80s is familiar with The Goonies. It was one of the classic (if not the most classic) movies that Corey Feldman starred in. He even starred in it without Corey Haim. Fans were not the only ones to love this movie. Even the filmmakers loved the premise. Everyone has been itching for a sequel, but 22 years later there is nothing to show for the interest.
Feldman was talking to MTV about sequel ideas that have passed through the pipeline to bring The Goonies back. One idea had his character as a Vegas shyster known as “The Mouth” and another sequel placed him as a trial lawyer. Feldman’s favorite option so far included the following idea.
“All of us were now grown up, and have our own kids. And those kids get into some trouble and end up stumbling across some link to our past. They discover who we really are and what we went through. And, simultaneously, the Fratelli brothers find out that the kids have found out – so they’re out to get the kids and the kids are out to save their lives and their families.”
Another option even included a Goonies sequel cartoon. Feldman is not too optimistic, so maybe we shouldn’t be either. According to him, “It’s come to the point of the script got ordered, and then the ball got dropped. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. doesn’t see it as a profitable venture. It’s a very sad, unfortunate story.”
He’s hopeful though, reminding people that “Anything’s possible.”
