Having watched and blogged about this year’s VMAs, I can say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. However, you definitely couldn’t tell that from the first performance, Britney Spears. I guess that little rhyme in grade school is true “First is the Worst.”
She was awful. Her weave was atrocious, her cottage cheese thighs were gross, and her inability to lip synch her own song was the only thing that got me through. She almost reminds me of Axle Rose and how he used to keep getting drunk and screwing up the Grammys. Maybe MTV has learned their lesson and they won’t put her on next year, when she will be planning her “Super duper really good comeback”, sponsored by Doritos, no less.
The big winners were Justin Timberlake and Rihanna. I don’t think anyone was too shocked by that one. Best performance is really a toss up. The three best performances hands down went to Chris Brown, Alicia Keys, and the Timberlake, Timbaland, Furtado trio. All three performances were hot, hot, hot.
The presenters were boring for the most part. They were there to create hype and nothing more. Jamie Foxx was the funniest and Pamela Anderson was the most likely to give someone herpes, but other than that they were forgettable for the most part. Shia LaBeouf was a presenter and was talking about Indiana Jones, but I forgot what he called the movie. Something about Crystal Skull was in there. Anything else beyond that and Indiana Jones, was lost to me.
Ultimately, I was more concerned with the winners. I also liked how they gave major props to Dr. Dre, who truly is the best producer of our time. I know Mary J. is tight with Dre, but I don’t think anyone in that room disagreed with her. He’s a legend, and love him or hate him, he got game when it comes to music.
I think perhaps the biggest shock came with Fergie winning the Best Female Artist. I had no real complaints though. I didn’t expect her to win, but I would have rather had Fergie win then Pukey Puke Face, Amy Wino. All in all, the VMAs were hot this year. Besides, anything that allows me to laugh at that freak Britney and her non-biological brain twin, Miss Teen South Carolina, is a day well spent.
