Cruise Extortionist Dead

The man that tried to extort money from the Tom Cruise camp was found dead in his home. The man, David Hans Schmidt was 47 years old. According to his attorney, he had intentions of pleading guilty and asking for probation during a hearing on October 11, for the case that could have given him two years in federal prison.

Police discovered Schmidt Friday afternoon in his townhouse. Apparently, he was on house arrest and when he didn’t check in police went to check on him. Schmidt was arrested back in July when federal authorities learned that he had pictures of the Scientolowedding between Cruise and Holmes and was threatening to release them if Cruise didn’t give him up to $1.3 million.

Apparently, Schmidt is no stranger to attempting to sell celebrity goods. He also has attempted to sell Paris Hilton’s diaries, pictures of Paris in various stages of nakedness, the Screech (Dustin Diamond) sex tape, the tape of Tonya Harding’s wedding night, and topless pictures of Jessica Lynch.

Details have no been released on why or how Schmidt committed suicide.
