American Idol starts Season Seven in about two months. However, right now the show is actually doing all of the taping for Hollywood Week. While this goes on some changes are being made behind the scenes that will rearrange how things work on American Idol.
Among the changes, The NY Post has listed:
Changing the format to let singers show other musical talents, such as playing an instrument
Fewer mentors aka those established musical stars like Diana Ross and Tony Bennett. Stars commonly appear every single week on American Idol and somehow tie into a theme for that night’s show. However, they feel this has taken away from the contestants more than they would like. That being said, I am sure they aren’t getting rid of theme nights so don’t get your hopes up.
The Idol tour plans to merge with the So You Think You Can Dance tour, to offer fans singing and dancing.
I am alright with the first change and even the second, but I am not a fan of the third change. Then again, I don’t go to the Idol tour so I guess I can’t complain too loudly.

It’s about time on that first change! The mentor thing worked better in previous seasons before it became totally about promoting said celebrity’s newest album.
I don’t like the third change at all, and I have gone to see the tour a few times.
