Mark Wahlberg Doesn’t Plan to Work Forever

Mark WahlbergI am not sure what kind of revelation it takes for someone who doesn’t have to work anymore, say that they don’t want to work forever, but that’s what Mark Wahlberg is saying. While movies were once his main priority, he has told People Magazine he hopes to be able to spend more time with his family and make less movies in the coming years.

People Magazine:

“‘I figure I got a few more years to work really hard and then, you know, if I can make a movie every year and a half or something then that would be nice,’ he told reporters at the press day for his latest film, We Own the Night. ‘I don’t want to work forever.”

The realization came to Wahlberg – whose life HBO’s ‘Entourage’ is based on and which he also executive produces – on the heels of the highly successful movie ‘The Departed,’ which brought the actor his first Oscar nomination.

Hollywood Remakes Hit All-time New Low with The Karate Kid

Jaden SmithRemakes are a funny thing, and by funny I generally mean suck-filled and unworthy. If a movie is deemed a classic or even worthy of a second look, no one should be allowed to touch it because it’s highly unlikely that someone will do it better than it’s already been done. I have sat back and ignored my distaste for making sequels and remakes when they were unnecessary, but this one takes the cake.

Rumor has it that Sony Pictures is planning to remake The Karate Kid. This was a movie that was originally made in 1984. So, it’s not even 25 years old. This movie is so young that they haven’t even started the anniversary DVDs for it yet. However, they are rumoring that it will be remade.

Sandler Gay Friendly but Not Gay Icon

Adam SandlerAdam Sandler has been out and about promoting his new comedy, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.” Both Sandler and co-star Kevin James said that they would love to help anyone in the gay community in any way that they can. Sandler said, “If I can help anybody in any way, I certainly would.” However, Sandler wouldn’t call himself a gay icon.

In fact he said, “I don’t think that’s gonna happen, dude, certainly not. If I was a gay man, I wouldn’t want me to represent.” When asked about the kiss he shared in the movie with Kevin James, Sandler said, “He was clean, and seemed to brush his teeth and all that.”

Kiefer Charged with DUI

KieferEarlier in the week we told you that Kiefer Sutherland could be charged with a DUI for driving drunk. Today he was officially charged and according to the city’s attorney’s office, he could end up going to jail for more than a year. The reason for the steep sentence would deal with the fact that this is the second DUI within a number of years. Police believe this also means that he has violated probation, which was given during the first DUI that occurred in 2004. If the courts decide Sutherland is guilty of probation violation, he could serve another six months on top of any sentence that he is given.

Sutherland was scheduled for arraignment on October 16. However, as the original crime is a misdemeanor he does not have to show up in court unless a judge orders him to arrive. At this point that has not happened.

Angelina JolieAngelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are planning to expand their family by adopting another child. This time the location of choice is Burma. According to the Daily Mail, the couple is receiving help from one of the leading monks in the country to visit an orphanage. Insiders say that Angelina has become “increasingly despondent” when it comes to the progress she is making in the third world. She wants to offer as much help as she can and feels that Burma may be the ideal place to adopt another child. Sources are saying she’s hoping for a girl this time.

Sources have said, “Angelina feels she is barely making a dent in the suffering she sees throughout the Third World as she travels incognito to different countries as a United Nations representative. She wants to step up her action in what she calls Red Alert areas, the most seriously troubled, war-torn areas in the world. She’s in talks to go into Burma and help with students and AIDS victims who are suffering terribly.”

The Sopranos - TonyI have had a chance to watch a few of these shows. In fact, some of them I watch on a regular basis. However, there is really only one that definitely deserves to win. I am picking The Sopranos for this one. It was one hell of a season and I was sad to see it end.

Emmy Awards: Outstanding Comedy Series - 30 Rock

Tina FeyThe best show awards are always some of the most important when it comes to Emmy night. This is one of the main reasons that people watch in the first place. When it comes to comedy I haven’t really seen many of these, but I don’t think that matters. Ugly Betty has this one in the bag. It’s one of the few comedies I watch. I have watched it from day one and have been in love with it since that first show.

Entourage • HBO •
The Office • NBC •

Emmy Awards: Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series - James Spader

James SpaderI have only really had a chance to see three out of these five shows. I have seen all of these actors at their best and worst though and this is one hell of a race. I am stuck between my two favorites and for the record, last year’s winner, Hugh Laurie is not one of them. If I had to choose the race would be between the magnificent Jack Bauer, Keifer Sutherland, and the most feared mob boss in HBO History, Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini. My pick goes to James Gandolfini as this was his final year as Tony and he played it better than could have been imagined.

Boston Legal • ABC • James Spader as Alan Shore
House • Fox • Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House
Rescue Me • FX • Denis Leary as Tommy Gavin
The Sopranos • HBO • James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
24 • Fox • Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer

Emmy Awards: The Sopranos Receive Standing Praise at Emmys

James Gandolfini was The SopranosI wasn’t going to write on the tribute that they did for The Sopranos on the Emmys. The performers that came up to sing a medley were excellent. However, the thing that caught my eye came when the cast of The Sopranos were announced.

The theme music for the show started and the cast filtered on the stage. A couple of the women wiped their eyes as they stood on stage. The Sopranos family, James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Jamie Lynn Sigler, and Robert Iler came up from the floor as they walked some underground steps. In the few minutes that they remained on stage the entire audience was on their feet. It is rare to see such a display of respect for any show anymore, but if any group deserved it The Sopranos was definitely that group.
